What is the best way to avoid bumps and irritation after body shaving/depilation/hair removal?
On May - 25 - 2009
Is there anything that can be applied to the body after hair removal to prevent these problems? A cream, moisturizer, etc? All help would be greatly appreciated.
when I shave (bikini area) I first soak in a hot bath for about 10 minutes and then shave. I never have any bumps.

exfoliate ur skin before 24 hours of ur hair removal….

Fist, do your whole shaving ritual… then use a REALLY MILD face wash to wash just the area of where you have shaved (any where!!)… for sensitive skin like yours, avoid using scented body wash stuff, it WILL make your skin burn!
A great product would be aveeno foaming clenser (6 buks target/walmart)
after the wash, PAT,(never rub after a shave) your skin dry, then apply an unscented lotion, while your skin is still moist… you should do this step as soon as you pat you skin dry…
a good product for that will be you choice of aveeno moisturising lotion… there is a large variety of what you can choose….
then you shouldnt have any problems, just avoid the scented stuff with your type of sensitive skin…
by the way, if you wax, the bumps wont even "sprout" to begin with! (veet wax strips, 10 bucks- drug stores)
Good Luck!!
: ) hope what i wrote helps….

the salons usually have a cream but it is best to get it done later in the evening as sun is the main factor to cause irritation!! if you are shaving do it at night so that the folicles can repair over night then it wil be safe to go into the sun!!

Warmest water you can bear before hand to open hair follicles & soften hair, sharpest razor (if shaving), then exfoliate (I also use something like Clearasil) then a COLD rinse to close everything up.
I have found this works well (I repeat the hot cold the following day too).
Avoid any moisturiser the day you do all your de-hairing - this always seems to clog my skin up & encourages spots & horrid red lumpy bits!

Use simple rubbing alcohol! You can also use the green alcohol as well.
This will somewhat sting a little, but you can best believe it will not irritate nor cause any bumps. Afterwards, use a light talcum powder and dust the razor-shaved areas.
You can save lots of money too by purchasing this alcohol at the .99cents store or at a dollar tree. They usually go for about .50 cents a bottle.
Good luck!

Before you shave, use a body scrub first. The grainier the better! This smoothes out the skin and you will get a better result after shaving. I find i get reeaally smooth skin afterwards if I do this - and I usually have dry rough skin!

Yes, actually a friend of mine told me her secret for that very problem. And she told me she uses roll on deodorant ….just don't think that would be such a good idea for a guy to put deodorant on his face…lol But it does work and no red bumps! If not that maybe a sensitive skin lotion.

aloe vera cream or plain old vaseline - nothing perfumed that will irritate. or ive heard using talcum powder after shaving etc works too but ive never tried it as the vaseline has proved successful for me.
